Maharashtra government’s decision to waive off farmers’ loans till June 30 next year is unacceptable: Uddhav Thackeray

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that the date of June 30, 2026 set by the state government for a decision on farm loan waiver is “not acceptable”. While interacting with farmers at a village here on Wednesday, Uddhav said that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis should make it clear that if the government is planning to waive the loans, will the farmers have to continue paying their installments? Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief on Wednesday began his four-day Marathwada tour from Nandar village in Paithan taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where he interacted with farmers. He will also visit Pali (Beed), Pathrud, Shirsav (Dharashiv) and Ghari (Solapur) villages later in the day.

Chief Minister Fadnavis had announced last week that a decision on farm loan waiver would be taken by June 30 next year. Fadnavis had said that first of all it is important to ensure that farmers get compensation for flood relief and also make preparations for Rabi sowing. Criticizing the government over the deadline on farm loan waiver, Thackeray said, “This date is not acceptable to us.” We are demanding Rs 50,000 per hectare as compensation to farmers for their losses. Farmers now also need loan waiver. The government says it wants to study the issue.
