Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday urged the Maharashtra government to immediately implement widespread relief and rehabilitation measures, citing the devastation caused by torrential rains in several parts of the state.
Pawar said in a statement that the ‘Panchnama’ (damage assessment) process should not be limited to hard time-limits. He emphasized that completing timely assessment is often “impossible during such unprecedented disasters”.
He said, “Later the losses – such as the collapse of houses due to structural damage or the affect of crops and animals after flood waters, should also be considered for compensation.”
Due to heavy rains in many parts of the state, the situation in many districts remains critical. Thousands of people had to leave home and go to safe places. The former Union Agriculture Minister also suggested that in addition to immediate financial assistance, the government should prepare a long -term revival and rehabilitation plan.
He said that the scheme should include re -sowing of crops, renovation of gardens, re -fertile land and infrastructure of irrigation such as dams, canals, wells and pumping systems. He said that silt extract and soil conservation should be given priority.
