The Maharashtra government has issued a mandate (GR) and directed all schools to form the alumni union (alumni association). An official gave this information on Friday.
Referring to the mandate issued on October 1, he said that he also includes schools, aided and non-aasted private schools run by Zilla Parishad and Municipal Corporations.
“Every school from first to 12th classes will have an alumni union, with former students as well as advisory members such as Principal, a teacher, a teacher, a parent, a parent representative and an officer of the Department of Education.” Alumni unions will be expected to contribute to the educational, infrastructure, cultural and social development of their respective schools.
According to the mandate, the major responsibilities of the alumni unions will include assisting infrastructure such as libraries, laboratories, hygiene facilities and digital resources such as infrastructure, lectures of experts, competition and guidance sessions for competitive exams and supporting sports, cultural activities and digital literacy.
According to the mandate, each alumni union will have to hold at least two meetings annually, which can be held online or offline. It states that reunion ceremony of alumni should be held every year. Also, it is said in the mandate that it can be around school programs or festivals, which will be required to be given at least 15 days in advance.
In the mandate, schools have been advised that for the sake of transparency they will not take cash from the former student and they have to keep an account of the monetary grants of the former student.
