Three members of the same family drowned in the Arabian Sea on Friday in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, while four others went missing. At the time of the accident, the victims went for a picnic. Officials have started search and rescue operations, while four bodies have been fired from the sea. The incident occurred at around 4 pm on the Shiroda-Velagar beach, located more than 490 km from Mumbai.

Police said eight members of a family were on picnic. Two of them stayed in Kudal (Sindhudurg), while six others came from Belgaum (Belagavi in Karnataka). They all landed in the sea to swim eight. However, shortly after, they started drowning due to not being able to guess the depth of water. After receiving the information, police and local disaster management teams launched rescue operations. The official said the bodies of three people were recovered during the search, while four others are still missing. The search for the remaining four people continued till late evening.
