Ludhiana West Bypolls: Jeevan Gupta filed nomination, BJP veterans were present

Jeevan Gupta filed his nomination as a BJP candidate for the Ludhiana West Assembly by -election in Punjab. State BJP President Sunil Jakhar, Punjab BJP in -charge Vijay Rupani and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu were also present while filing nominations. The BJP also held a public meeting near Hotel Gulmohar before filing nomination papers. Today was the last date for nomination.

Gupta, who worked as Vice President, General Secretary and Secretary of Punjab BJP, is a member of the core group of the saffron party in the state. Along with his candidature, there is going to be a four-way contest in the assembly constituency. Gupta is confronted by Congress veteran and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and advocate Parupakar Singh Ghumman. Gupta and Ghumman are contesting their first election.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Ravneet Singh Bittu got the highest number of votes (45,424) in Ludhiana West, indicating a change in the trend of urban voters. In contrast, Amarinder Singh Raja Waring of Congress got 30,889 votes, while AAP and SAD candidates were far behind. In the 2022 assembly elections, AAP’s Gurpreet Gogi Bassi shocked the traditional musclemen by winning the Ludhiana West seat by more than 40,000 votes. He defeated the Congress’s Ashu, who received 32,931 votes. At that time BJP candidate Bikram Singh Sidhu finished third with 28,107 votes.
