The Punjab State Information Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the SHO of Shimlapuri police station of Ludhiana Police Commissionerate for not providing information to an RTI activist. The SHO has been ordered to appear before the commission on March 27.

Complainant Davinder Sharma Bitta, a resident of Janakpuri, said that about two and a half years ago, he had complained to the Shimlapuri police about blackmail against a person, but the police did not take any action on the complaint. Meanwhile, they were invited to the ‘Know Your Case’ camp organized by the police department in Shimlapuri police station and asked to settle your case.

Devinder Sharma said that I reached the police station on time, where I came to know that the police had lost my complaint. They made me wait at the police station for at least an hour. When I protested against this, police station SHO Inspector Pramod Kumar and Munshi abused me.
