Foreign Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar dismissed the claims of US President Donald Trump, stating that he used business to force India and Pakistan to accept a ceasefire. He shared his direct details of the conversation between New Delhi and Washington before interacting with Islamabad. In a special conversation with Newsweek in New York, the minister revealed that when US Vice President JD Vance spoke to him on the phone, he was with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and as far as India is concerned, there is no relation between trade and ceasefire.

Jaishankar said that I can tell you that I was in the room when Vice President Wane spoke to Prime Minister Modi on the night of 9 May and said that Pakistan would attack India a big attack. We did not accept some things and the Prime Minister was indifferent to the threats of Pakistan. Describing the events of the conversation, he said that on the contrary, he (Prime Minister Modi) indicated that we would be responded to. He said that India maintained dialogue with both Russia and Ukraine and contributed to the solutions on topics such as food security, fertilizer supply and grain corridors.

Jaishankar remembered that on the night of 9 May, Pakistan had made a major attack against India. However, he emphasized that the Indian armed forces responded rapidly and decisively. He recalled, that night Pakistanis attacked us extensively, (and) we responded very fast.
