The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is starting a large-scale vaccination campaign to protect Goudhan from lumpy skin disease from February 25. This information was given by Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian.
He said that the state has purchased 25 lakh doses of Goat Pox vaccine from Telangana State Veterinary Biological and Research Institute, Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 78.75 lakh. The Cabinet Minister said that vaccines have been sent to all districts by the Punjab State Veterinary Vaccine Institute, Ludhiana. Under this campaign, this vaccine will be administered free of cost to all cattle in the state, including cattle ponds and private cowsheds run by the state government.
Apart from establishing a control room at the state level by the Punjab Animal Husbandry Department, district level control rooms have also been established at the offices of the Deputy Directors of the Animal Husbandry Department. The department has also issued a helpline number 0172-2217084 for the help of animal husbandry. The Minister said that Joint Director RDDL, Jalandhar has been posted as the nodal officer to carry out this vaccination campaign smoothly.
He said that this booster dose of Goat Pox vaccine is being administered for the third time to prevent this disease. He also asked the officials of the department to make proper arrangements for the cold chain for the vaccine and to make the livestock keepers aware about the benefits of the vaccination campaign.
