Large operation of Army-Assam Rifles in Manipur, 9 militants arrested, heavy weapons recovered

The Indian Army and Assam Rifles led by Spear Core started a series of joint campaigns based on intelligence from 15 to 21 September 2025. These coordinated efforts with the Manipur Police targeted several districts including Tenganupal, Thobal, Implue East, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Chandel. In a post shared on X, the Spear Corps of the Indian Army said that nine active cadres were caught during these campaigns. Security forces recovered 36 weapons, drugs and other war-related goods.

The expeditions run in hilly and valley districts, indicating a comprehensive approach to overcome security concerns. These joint campaigns reflect the continuous efforts of the security forces to maintain peace and stability in Manipur. Earlier, on the basis of specific intelligence information, Assam Rifles launched a comprehensive search operation on 18 September in dense forests of Saikumpai in Champai district.

On the morning of 19 September, the soldiers recovered a hidden weapon’s hidden cache, including a hekler and coach G3 assault rifle, a springfield sniper rifle, a 60 mm mortar tube, 21 rounds of ammunition for various rifles and 13 grenades. In addition, suitable items for the war were also recovered, including eight meter cordetex, two trip wire, one sniper scope, two RPG range exterrends, one AK-47 and one magazine for a pistol, two magazines, two radio sets, an additional antenna and other diverse items.

After seizure, the team inspected the wide area to locate the presence of any underground cadre in the surrounding area. The recovered weapons, ammunition and war related goods were handed over to the Dungtlong Police Department for further investigation. Meanwhile, on 17 September, in an important attempt to curb drug smuggling from across the border, Assam Rifles carried out a search operation based on specific intelligence. The campaign was carried out near the Zotte village in Champhai district of Mizoram. During this campaign, the soldiers caught a suspected person carrying a consignment of narcotics. When challenged, the person left the goods, taking advantage of the area and ran into the nearby forest.
