The effect of the recent tussle between the Governor of West Bengal and the Mamata Banerjee government of the state was also seen during the Republic Day celebrations. Jagdeep Dhankhar and the Chief Minister had a face-off at the venue but there was no warmth. Mamata Banerjee greeted the governor at the venue as he walked towards her, but there was a clear lack of natural warmth from the Trinamool Congress chief (TMC).
Mamta did not get up from her chair until the governor came close to her. It was seen that at one point the Chief Minister turned his face when Dhankhar was seen saying something to him. At the same time, while posing for photographs, Mamta kept her distance from the governor and stood close to the speaker of the state assembly (speaker) Biman Banerjee, with whom Dhankhar had an argument a day earlier.
Interacting with the media after paying floral tributes at the statue of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in the Assembly premises on National Voters’ Day, the Governor had not only criticized the Speaker and the Chief Minister but also called the political situation in the state dreadful.
At the same time, reacting to the allegations of Governor Dhankhar, the speaker said that making such remarks by him is extremely rude conduct. Let us tell you that there is a dispute between Dhankhar and the West Bengal government over various issues including the appointment of Vice-Chancellors in the state universities.
