Faridkot, March 16: A Faridkot court on Thursday approved anticipatory bail plea of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patron Parkash Singh Badal. However, it did not provide any relief to party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Notably, on February 25, the SIT investigating the 2015 Kotkapura police firing filed a chargesheet in the Faridkot court, which included the names of Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal, the then Chief Minister and Deputy CM of Punjab, respectively.
In the chargesheet, Parkash Singh Badal has been accused of facilitating the execution of the conspiracy. On the other hand, Sukhbir Singh Badal, who held the home portfolio in 2015 when the Kotkapura filing incident took place, has accused political opponents of trying target the Badal family.
Sukhbir Singh Badal described the filing of the chargesheet “politically motivated”. He alleged that Punjab Cabinet minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal had told protesters at Behbal Kalan that the names of Badals would be included in the chargesheet.
The SAD chief has been claiming that he was out of the state on the day of the incident.
