Cloud bursting in Kishtwar: According to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, at least 60 people died and more than 100 were injured in cloudburst in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. On Thursday, the fierce floods caused havoc due to cloudburst in Chisoti, a remote hill village of Kishtwar. The rescue team fears that the death toll may increase as many people are still missing. Jammu’s Inspector General of Police BS Tutti said that most of the victims were Hindu pilgrims who were going on a visit to the Machail Mata temple. He said that the number of casualties is likely to increase. The disaster came between 12 to 1 pm in Chasoti (also written Chisoti) when hundreds of devotees gathered for the annual journey. On the incident of cloudburst in Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi spoke to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and took stock of the situation, promised all possible help.
Recognized 21 dead bodies
Its authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have identified 21 of the 60 bodies recovered from the village of Chashoti affected by a cloudburst in Kishtwar district. Officials gave this information on Friday. At least 46 people, including two Central Reserve Police Force (CISF) personnel, were killed in a cloudburst in Chashoti, a remote hill village in Kishtwar district on Thursday. Officials said the authorities shared photos of the victims with the affected families through a WhatsApp group to identify the dead, resulting in 21 out of the 46 bodies recovered. So far, more than 160 injured have been taken out of the rubble, out of which 38 are said to be critical. Villagers said that they have seen 10 bodies floating in the Chenab river and efforts are also on to remove them.

A large number of devotees were near Machail Mata Temple
The disaster came at 12:25 pm in the village of Chashoti falling on the route leading to Machail Mata Temple. At the time when the accident took place, a large number of people gathered there to visit the Machail Mata temple. Devotees can reach Chashoti village by vehicle to reach the Machail Mata temple at an altitude of nine and a half thousand feet and then they have to travel 8.5 km on foot. Chashoti village is about 90 km from Kishtwar city. A langar (community kitchen) installed for devotees here was the most affected by this incident. Due to cloudburst, there was a sudden flood and several buildings including shops and a security post were washed away. This disaster has destroyed a temporary market, anchor site and a security post. Officials said that at least 16 residential houses and government buildings, three temples, four windmills, 30 meters long bridge and more than a dozen vehicles were damaged due to sudden floods in Chashoti and low -lying areas.
NDRF team involved in rescue work
A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived on Friday to help in the rescue work in the village affected by cloudburst. Two more teams are on the way and due to the widespread and widespread of destruction, they will also join the campaign.
Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Sharma told PTI-Bhasha, “The NDRF team is joining the ongoing campaign in the village. They reached Gulabgarh late at night.”
Sharma, who is monitoring the campaign, said that the helicopters could not run due to bad weather, so the team came by road from Udhampur.
The survivors shared terrible experiences
People survived by cloudburst in Kishtwar narrated painful stories of saving lives and loss. After being rescued, Putul said, “… The whole mountain collapsed, and we could not understand what happened … I was chaos everywhere. I was not buried because I was standing on the rock … I am not able to find many members of my family. I am still trying to find them.”
A surviving person named Rakesh Sharma told ANI, “We ate prasad in the anchor. We were about to cross the road that there was a sudden noise … We saw the debris falling. When everyone started shouting ‘run’, we tried to run away … As soon as I tried to save my child, the debris was buried on me, we fell and the wooden … Can also be buried … The people of Kishtwar are very kind; they helped me from clothes and food … “
