Kiran Bedi’s demand: Ban on air purifiers in government offices, so that officials feel the pain of pollution.

Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi on Saturday demanded a ban on installation of air purifiers in government offices and government residences. He argued that if government officials are to understand the seriousness of the problem of air pollution, they must have first-hand experience of its effects. Bedi said this kind of insulation prevents officials from gauging the real situation outside while citizens are in distress. The post read, “While many are suffering from chest congestion, runny nose, sneezing and cough. Even fever… feeling low on energy. Everyone needs healthy air. It’s a right.” Kiran Bedi, who was the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate in Delhi during the 2015 assembly elections, had described the worsening air quality of the capital as a public health emergency. He further said that governance cannot be controlled by remote…it has to stand in the dust, breathe the same air and work with promptness.
