At least six soldiers, including a captain, were killed in an IED blast targeting a convoy of security forces in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday. Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the army, gave this information. The attack on the convoy took place in the Sultani area of ​​the restive Kurram tribal district bordering Afghanistan. Seven terrorists were killed in the shootout that followed.

The terrorists started firing on the convoy when it was passing through the area. During the encounter, an IED exploded near Dogar, causing heavy damage. One officer and five soldiers were killed in this blast. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the culprits.

Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist attacks, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, mostly targeting police, law enforcement personnel and security forces.

The increase comes after the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022.According to ISPR, security forces on Sunday foiled two major terrorist infiltration attempts from Afghanistan, killing 25 terrorists including four suicide bombers and seizing a huge cache of weapons and explosives in separate operations in North Waziristan and Kurram districts.
