After 39 people died in a stampede during the rally of actor and politician Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, the police have registered a criminal case against senior leaders of his political party, Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK). There are about 10 children in this tragic incident, while more than 50 people are still hospitalized.
A senior police officer said on Sunday that the police, senior leaders of the TVK party, Bussi Anand, Nirmal Kumar and V.P. A case has been registered against Mathialgan and investigation is on. According to the police, the TVK party initially sought permission for the rally of 10,000 people for the rally, but in reality the crowd was more than double.

Vijay, who has been one of the biggest names of Tamil cinema for three decades, has gathered a huge crowd since started his party last year. Vijay, ‘unhappy’ from the stampede, has promised to help the afflicted families. He was campaigning for his party before next year’s state elections.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to each family who lost their lives in a stampede. The state government has also appointed a commission under the leadership of a retired judge to investigate the causes of the stampede.
