Karnataka: Cabinet decided to conduct caste survey afresh, will be completed in 90 days

On the question of how the caste of Karnataka survey will be different from the census, the CM said that the Center has not said that it will conduct a socio-economic survey.

In a special cabinet meeting held on Thursday in Bengaluru, it was decided to conduct a new socio-economic survey across the state and complete it in 90 days as per the wish of the leadership of the All India Congress Committee. Giving information to the media after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that according to the law of the State Backward Classes Commission, the findings of such survey are valid for only 10 years.

On the question of how the caste of Karnataka survey will be different from the census, the CM said that the Center has not said that it will conduct a socio-economic survey. He said that the Congress government is committed to giving social justice as promised by the party in its election manifesto. The government will ask the Karnataka State Permanent Backward Classes Commission headed by former Advocate General Madhusudan Naik to submit a survey report in 90 days. He said that Telangana completed this work in 70 days.

The cabinet meeting was held on Thursday, when AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi asked Siddaramaiah to re -calculate the castes. It was a reply to complaints from the major communities of Karnataka that caste has been re -calculated in the data collected for the survey. Earlier, Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday that the party high command has decided to re -enter the caste census data and this is not the decision of the state government. Talking to reporters, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that some complaints have been received about caste census.
