Kanpur Scooter Blast: Panic spread across Kanpur’s Master Road on Wednesday evening when a low-intensity explosion occurred in two parked scooters, injuring eight people, including a woman. Police Commissioner, Kanpur, confirmed during a phone interview that preliminary investigation revealed that the blast was caused by illegally stocked firecrackers.

Two scooters explode in market in Kanpur

Two scooters parked in the crowded Mishri Bazaar near a mosque in Kanpur exploded within seconds of each other, injuring eight people and damaging nearby shops. Police gave this information.

The blasts took place in the crowded Moolganj area at around 7.30 pm. The sound of these explosions near Markaz Mosque was heard up to 500 meters away from the incident site.

The injured were taken to hospital

Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said that eight people were injured in the explosions in two scooters parked in Mishri Bazaar. The injured were taken to the hospital. Two of them were discharged after first aid and four others, who suffered severe burns, were referred to Lucknow’s King George’s Medical University (KGMU). He told that the remaining two people are under observation in the hospital in Kanpur and their condition is said to be out of danger.

Investigating agencies are investigating the incident from every possible angle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that one scooter belonged to Ashwini Kumar. Kumar has also been injured in this incident and has been referred to Lucknow. The Police Commissioner said that he told the police that he had gone to the market to buy decorative lights for Diwali. He told that the second scooter belongs to Vijendra Prasad Rastogi, resident of Govind Nagar.

He said that the police have not been able to contact him yet. Multiple agencies including the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Special Task Force (STF) are investigating the incident from every possible angle. Lal said, “No possibility is being ruled out at this time.” “Forensic experts and special teams are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the source and nature of the blast.”

“Since Diwali is approaching, we are also investigating the possibility of a firecracker-related blast,” he said, adding that the terror angle was also not being ruled out. The official said security has been tightened in the surrounding areas and all precautionary measures are being taken to curb rumours.

Bomb disposal squad, forensic experts and anti-demolition teams are present to search the site and collect samples. Police said intelligence units have been tasked to analyze CCTV footage of the surrounding area and identify possible suspects.

The walls of nearby shops were damaged by the explosion. Mohammad Uwais, a shopkeeper, said, we were sitting inside the shop when suddenly there was a huge explosion. People were shocked and the goods from the shops scattered on the road.
