BJP’s Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, visited her constituency destroyed by rain on Sunday and said that the way relief work is being done, the Congress will not return to the state power even in 20 years. She said that as an MP, she can only make the Prime Minister aware of the situation. The actress said in Thunag Panchayat, “I am very sad to see the plight of the people. She has lost her family members, the houses are swept away, many are still missing, but we can only console those families who have lost their families and the time has come to provide relief.” Thunag Panchayat is one of several places affected by the cloudburst on Tuesday in Mandi.

Apart from this, actress-prose-royalty Kangana Ranaut is facing criticism for “insensitive” comments made during a visit to flood affected areas in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday. Addressing disaster relief efforts in his parliamentary constituency, Ranaut jokingly said that he has no official cabinet to provide disaster relief.
The BJP MP laughed, “Whether disaster relief or disaster – I have no official cabinet. I have two brothers who are always with me. This is my cabinet. So, it has only these two people. I have no funds for disaster relief nor I have any cabinet posts. The work of MPs is limited to Parliament. We are very young in this matter.”

However, he also assured the people to get help from the Center for the Disaster Relief Fund. He said, “No matter how many military rescue operations have been conducted by our central government … you must have seen how many people are being saved. Even today we are getting food and shelter in every way. Along with this, our party leaders have formed a team in the affected area. We have also reached here as part of the same team. The main tasks of MPs are to get funds from the center and reach my message. I will do this work with full capacity.”
Targeting Ranaut, the Congress posted a small clip of his statement on X, in which his comment was called “insensitive”.
The party wrote “There has been a huge devastation due to cloudburst in Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. People are upset, their whole world has been destroyed. Mandi MP Kangana reached there after several days and laughed and said – ‘What can I do, I have no post in the cabinet. Please show some sensitivity, Kangana ji
Targeting Ranaut, the Congress posted a small clip of him. Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinet also criticized the BJP MP. He said, “Kangana ji’s insensitivity has also shocked BJP’s Jairam Thakur. There has been a huge devastation due to cloudburst in Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. Kangana ji there came to visit that place for the first time after this tragedy.

Thunag Panchayat Mandi is one of the various places that were affected by the cloudburst on Tuesday. Cloudburst, sudden floods and landslides have caused heavy havoc, due to which 14 people have died and 31 missing people are searching. More than 150 houses, 106 animals, 31 vehicles, 14 bridges and several roads have been damaged in the disaster. A total of 164 cattle have been killed.
According to the State Emergency Operations Center, traffic on about 200 roads in Mandi district has been discontinued by Sunday morning while 236 transformers and 278 supply schemes have been disrupted. Ranaut told reporters, the state government has to do relief and rehabilitation and as an MP, I can only request assistance by informing the Prime Minister and the Home Minister about the situation.
He said, we are strong between the state and the central government, they play an important role in starting projects from the Center to the state and raising the issues and complaints of their constituencies before the Center. He said, the way the state government is working, I can say that the Congress will not come to power in the state for the next 20 years. The Congress had taken a dig at Kangana for being absent from the Lok Sabha constituency, after which they have retaliated.
Earlier, when asked about Kangana’s absence, his party’s ally and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Jairam Thakur had said, “We are worried about the local people, we live and die for him.” We cannot comment about those who are not worried. Ranaut deferred the Congress’ allegations, saying that an MP is not allowed to allocate funds from the Local Area Development Fund in the event of a disaster and the restoration of roads and other infrastructure is the work of the state government.
Earlier, he wrote on ‘X’, it is heartbreaking to see the devastation of floods almost every year in Himachal. I wanted to visit flood affected areas in Siraj and other areas of Mandi, but Honorable Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur advised to wait until the contact was restored in the affected areas. Siraj is the assembly constituency of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur.
