On March 14, the Delhi HC judge’s government bungalow was on fire. There firefighters found sacks filled with burnt 500 rupee notes.
The hearing of more than 50 cases being heard by the bench headed by Justice Yashwant Verma in the Delhi High Court will be renewed. The High Court has issued a notification.
The notice has a list of 52 cases, including civil writ petitions. These cases are from 2013 to 2025. These include 22 petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the provisions of the NDMC Act related to property tax.
Justice Verma was engulfed in controversies when his Lutyens’ house in Delhi caught fire on the night of 14 March. Sacks filled with bundles of 500-500 rupees burn notes were found from the store room of his house. The question arose as to where so much cash came from. After this, Justice Verma was transferred to the Allahabad High Court. A three -judge committee is conducting an internal investigation against Justice Verma.
Justice Verma was withdrawn from Judicial charge on 23 March. Since then, Advocate, these cases were given by Chief Justice of Delhi High Court D.K. He was presenting before Upadhyay. At the same time, they were seeking instructions for further action. Justice D.K. Upadhyay had suggested to the lawyers to give an application to his private secretary or court Registrar General, as well as assured that his complaint would be considered.

Allahabad High Court Bar Association in protest against the return to Justice Verma
On March 23, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association protested against sending Justice Yashwant Verma back to Allahabad. On March 23, the Delhi High Court withdrew the charge from Justice Verma.
Bar called the General House meeting. In which a proposal was passed to demand a motion of impeachment against Justice Verma. Also, a proposal was passed to demand an inquiry into the case with ED and CBI. A copy of the proposal has also been sent to the Supreme Court CJI.
Justice Yashwant Verma was appointed as a judge in the Allahabad High Court itself. After this, his Delhi High Court was transferred in October 2021. Before becoming a judge, he has also been the Chief Standing Council of the State Government in the Allahabad High Court.

March 14: Congress MP Jairam Ramesh raised the matter in the Rajya Sabha. He had raised the issue of judicial accountability and mentioned the pending notice to the Chairman regarding impeachment against a judge of the Allahabad High Court.
March 22: CJI Sanjeev Khanna formed a three -member committee to investigate the allegations against Justice Verma. He had asked the Delhi High Court Chief Justice not to hand over any work to Justice Verma.
March 22: Late in the night, the Supreme Court released a video of 15 crore cash from Justice’s house. In the 65 second video, burnt sacks filled with notes are visible. Justice Verma himself has been on leave since the revelations of the case.
March 21: A proposal was made to transfer the Allahabad High Court of Justice Verma.

3 -member committee formed for cash scandal
On March 23, a three -member inquiry committee was constituted to investigate the cash case on the orders of CJI Sanjeev Khanna of the Supreme Court. This includes Justice Sheel Nagu (Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court), GS Sandhawalia (Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court) and Justice Anu Shivraman of Karnataka High Court.

Justice Verma- being implicated in the case
The report also has Justice Verma’s side, in which he has said that he or his family never kept any money in the store room where notes are being found. It is an open place where everyone has to come and go. They are being implicated in this case.
Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay submitted a report to the Supreme Court on 21 March after the internal inquiry. The Supreme Court has refused to give judicial work to Justice Verma. Now 6 months’ call details of Justice Verma will be examined.
Bar Association President- Hurry to reach a conclusion
Mohit Mathur, president of the Delhi High Court Bar Association, said- I believe that Bar Association works as a judge of judges. No lawyers complained to me till date against Justice Verma.
He said- Justice Verma is one of the finest judges of the Delhi High Court. However, the allegations against him and the ongoing evidence in the public domain are very serious. The video clip is not clear, so it is too early to come on a decision.
In 2018 too, the name was associated with a scam of Rs 97.85 crore
Earlier in 2018, the CBI lodged an FIR against Justice Verma in the case of disturbances in the Simbhavali sugar mill of Ghaziabad. According to NDTV report, Oriental Bank of Commerce complained of the mill disturbances. The complaint said that the sugar mill has misused a loan of Rs 97.85 crore issued for the farmers.
Justice Verma was then the non-executive director of the company. The CBI started investigation in this case. However, the investigation slowed down. In February 2024, a court ordered the CBI to resume the closed investigation, but the Supreme Court overturned the order and the CBI stopped the investigation.
