On March 14, the Delhi HC judge’s government bungalow was on fire. There firefighters found sacks filled with burnt 500 rupee notes.
The investigation report against Justice Yashwant Verma surrounded in the cash case has been submitted to CJI Sanjeev Khanna. The Supreme Court has given this information through press release on Monday.
The Supreme Court said- On May 3, the investigation report was submitted to the Supreme Court. This report has been given to CJI on 4 May. Now CJI will take further decisions in this matter.
In the inquiry committee, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court GS. Sandhavalia and Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Anu Shivraman.
Justice Verma was engulfed in controversies when his Lutyens’ house in Delhi caught fire on the night of 14 March. Sacks filled with bundles of 500-500 rupees were found from the store room of his house.
On the order of CJI Khanna, a 3 -member inquiry committee was constituted on March 21 to investigate the case. On March 24, the Supreme Court collegium recommended Justice Yashwant Verma’s transfer from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court.
Following the order of the court and after the President’s approval, the Central Government issued a notification for the transfer on March 28. Justice Yashwant Verma was sworn in at the Allahabad High Court on 5 April 2025.
However, the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court was instructed not to assign any judicial work to Justice Verma.

₹ 500 notes were found outside the house
On March 16, during the cleaning outside the bungalow of Justice Yashwant Verma, the cleaning workers received a half-district notes of Rs 500-500. Scavengers said that even 4-5 days ago we had received such notes. These notes were lying in leaves on the road during cleaning.
Allahabad High Court Bar Association Transfer On March 23, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association protested against sending Justice Yashwant Verma back to Allahabad. Bar had called the General House meeting, in which a proposal was passed to bring impeachment motion against Justice Verma.
Also, a proposal was passed to demand an inquiry into the case with ED and CBI. A copy of the proposal was also sent to the Supreme Court CJI. On March 23, the Delhi High Court withdrew the charge from Justice Verma.
The representatives of the association had met CJI Sanjeev Khanna and the members of the collegium on March 27 demanding to reconsider the transfer.
Justice Yashwant Verma was appointed as a judge in the Allahabad High Court itself. After this, his Delhi High Court was transferred in October 2021. Before becoming a judge, he has also been the Chief Standing Council of the State Government in the Allahabad High Court.

On March 27, Delhi Fire Service Chief Atul Garg also appeared before the Supreme Court Investigation Panel. According to sources, Atul Garg testified before the investigation panel at Haryana State Circuit House in Chanakyapuri and recorded his statement. However, Garg denied the claims of the fire fighting cash being recovered.
Policemen’s phones sent to forensic lab In the cash case, mobile phones of 8 personnel of Delhi Police were seized and sent to the forensic department. According to reports, the mobiles of two personnel and three PCR personnel who reached the spot on the station house officer (SHO), the investigating officer Havildar Roopchand, Sub-Inspector Rajneesh of Tughlaq Road Police Station and mobiles of three PCR personnel were examined.
Officials are trying to find out whether a video was recorded on their mobile phone when the officials reached the spot during the fire. If the video was recorded, was he tampered with. Delhi Police has also recorded all these statements.
In 2018 too, the name was associated with a scam of Rs 97.85 crore
Earlier in 2018, the CBI lodged an FIR against Justice Verma in the case of disturbances in the Simbhavali sugar mill of Ghaziabad. According to NDTV report, Oriental Bank of Commerce complained of the mill disturbances. The complaint said that the sugar mill has misused a loan of Rs 97.85 crore issued for the farmers.
Justice Verma was then the non-executive director of the company. The CBI started investigation in this case. However, the investigation slowed down. In February 2024, a court ordered the CBI to resume the closed investigation, but the Supreme Court overturned the order and the CBI stopped the investigation.
