Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues played an innings against Australia in the Women’s ODI World Cup semi-final on Thursday, which has brought her into the limelight across the country. He played an unbeaten inning of 127 runs under pressure and successfully took India to the final by achieving the biggest target ever in history. But till just a year ago, his journey was not so easy.
Let us tell you that in October 2024, Jemima was embroiled in a controversy when her honorary membership was canceled by her father Ivan Rodrigues after the issue of religious events in Mumbai’s Khar Gymkhana came to light. According to available information, these events included religious programs associated with Brother Manuel Ministries, which was a violation of Gymkhana rules. Political or religious programs are not allowed under the rules of Gymkhana.
Shiv Malhotra, a member of the club’s executive committee, had said on the incident, “It was shocking that such events were taking place inside our club. This had been heard of happening at other places, but it was worrying to see it here.” After this, through voting in the membership meeting, it was decided to revoke the honorary membership of Rodrigues. Club President Vivek Devnani had said that this decision was taken unanimously.
On the other hand, while returning to the field, Jemima played the most memorable innings of her career. He also made an emotional revelation about his mental condition after his century innings studded with 14 fours against seven-time champion Australia. “I have cried almost every day during this tour. Wasn’t doing well mentally and was constantly battling anxiety,” she said after the match.
It is noteworthy that with this innings, Jemima not only took India to the finals, but also proved that even after overcoming the phase of failure and criticism, a player can write a new story with his game. Now she will enter the final to be held on Sunday with the intention of winning the first Women’s ODI World Cup trophy for the country.
