The issue of workload management of India’s fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah on the tour of England was quite hot. Many people informed about this and said that Bumrah should play if needed. Now another former batsman of India Sanjay Manjrekar has spoken about Bumrah. He has clearly stated that Bumrah will have to adjust as Indian cricket cannot adjust.
In fact, Jasprit Bumrah played only three matches of the five -match Test series against England. He did not participate in the last match played at The Oval. This match was decisive, yet Bumrah had rested by talking about the workload. However, the BCCI later made it clear that Bumrah did not play the last match due to injury. At the same time, it was also already decided that Bumrah would play only three matches.
Manjrekar said in this regard that no player is very important for the team and this method should be adopted by team management to deal with Bumrah. Manjrekar said that, the game always shows us the mirror, no matter how much we try and stick to things. It is a different kind of justice that we both won the Test matches that Bumrah did not play.
He further said that when it is a matter of choosing big players, it should be a matter of enthusiasm for Indian cricketers. Some major decisions of Indian selectors will have to be taken. This series has been a big lesson for them and for us too. Two Tests that India won were neither Virat Kohli, nor Rohit Sharma nor Jaspreet Bumrah. This reminds me of a very true puzzle of sports and life that no one is great. Similarly, India should handle Bumrah.
