Jammu and Kashmir is suffering from floods! Center team will assess destruction in Jammu, rescue work gains, BRO also active

The Central Government has deployed an inter-ministry team to make a detailed ground tour of flood affected districts of Jammu and to real assessment of the recent rains. This information was given at a high-level meeting chaired by Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday night and Chief Minister of Inter-Ministerial team and Colonel Kirti Pratap Singh, Joint Secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority of India. The meeting was held to discuss the scale of recent cloudburst, sudden floods and landslides in Jammu region.

In the next four days, the inter-ministerial team will make a detailed ground tour of the affected areas to assess the actual scale of losses in the districts of Jammu division, “a government spokesman said. After this it will submit a detailed report to the Government of India. The central team consists of officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Rural Development, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Water Power and Ministry of Finance.

Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan, Director General of Border Roads Organization (BRO) visited various flood affected areas to assess the damage caused to road infrastructure in Jammu. The BRO chief is currently on a three -day visit to the region. Dozens of roads and bridges have been damaged here after heavy rains, sudden floods and landslides, including the most important contact route – National Highway with Kashmir.

BRO Director General inspected roads damaged by floods

A BRO spokesperson said, Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan inspected rain and flood affected areas on Wednesday to assess the damage to the road infrastructure and review the measures to restore it quickly. He instructed the BRO’s ground workforce and commanding officers to expedite the restoration work of flood -damaged road infrastructure so that the surface connectivity can be restored soon. More than 120 people died due to continuous rains in Jammu region for nine days and hundreds of houses and other structures, besides electricity, water, roads and agricultural infrastructure in the area have been damaged.

Flood warning in Srinagar after the Jhelum river came out in Budgam

Many areas of Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir have been submerged due to the rise of Jhelum River, after which officials in Srinagar district have issued counseling to evacuate people from sensitive low -lying areas. An official spokesperson said, “Srinagar district administration has reported floods in Shalina, Budgam. As a precaution, the residents of Lasjan, Soiteng, Naugam, Vyathpura, Golpura, Padshahibagh and Zajurnagar are advised to vacate these areas and move to safe places. ”

The spokesman said that the administration has set up relief centers to help the people out of these areas. He informed that nodal officers have been appointed for these relief centers besides the district administration and nodal officers of SMC (Srinagar Municipal Corporation) to help the needy.

He said, “Announcements have already been made in these areas through local committees, mosques and local revenue and police officers.” The possibility of flood has decreased slightly with the low water level in other areas of the valley located in the low -lying areas of the Jhelum river from 6 am on Thursday. However, the Jhelum river is still flowing above the danger mark at Sangam in South Kashmir and Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar.
