India and South Korea on Saturday pledged to expand their strategic partnership by increasing cooperation in semiconductor, clean energy, defense and artificial intelligence (AI) areas.
Foreign Minister S. The conversation between Jaishankar and his counterpart Cho Hyun in South Korea prominently discussed ways to increase overall bilateral cooperation. The Foreign Minister said in a post on ‘X’, “There was a significant discussion on extending our bilateral cooperation in business, manufacturing, sea and mutual contact between sea and people in AI, semiconductor, clean energy and new opportunities in defense.”
Jaishankar said that he and Hyun also exchanged consideration on the Indo-Pacific region and contemporary global developments. He said, “Appreciated the intensified participation on completion of 10 years of special strategic partnership.”
At the meeting, Jaishankar thanked South Korea for condemning the Pahalgam terror attack. The Foreign Minister also referred to the support given by Seoul to the parliamentary delegation of India who visited South Korea after ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Jaishankar said, “It has been a barely one month of you (as as Foreign Minister), and the fact that you are here just a day after your National Day and our National Day, it says a lot about the importance we give to the relationship.” In the last few years, India-South Korea relations, especially in the areas of trade and defense, have accelerated.
