The BJP is planning to intensify its campaign against the RJD leader Lalu Prasad and the party’s social justice issue over the alleged insult of Dr. BR Ambedkar by the RJD supremo. On 11 June, an alleged video went viral on Lalu Prasad’s birthday, showing the poster of Dr. BR Ambedkar near his feet. For the last few days, the state BJP has been raising this issue, in which Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary held a press conference in Patna.
At the same time, Lalu Yadav and BR Ambedkar have written in the posters put up in Patna amidst the controversy, ‘Seven days are about to be, when will you apologize Lalu Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav’. On Sunday, Bihar State Scheduled Castes Commission issued a notice to Lalu and asked him to clarify his position in the matter. Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav criticized Lalu Prasad for fully silent on the issue. Yadav told media persons in Delhi, “The people of Bihar have not forgotten the rule of Laluji. Atrocities on Dalits and backward communities were at its peak under his rule. The scenes seen in the video clearly reflect their ego. I firmly believe that they should apologize for this.”
Reacting to the BJP’s allegations, senior RJD leader Manoj Jha called it a fruitless show of the BJP. Jha said that his (BJP’s) acts towards our national president actually reveal his hollow politics, which is nothing but often visible stress about symbolic reverence versus real commitment. Whereas BJP often through idols, events and images, Dr. B.R. Calls Ambedkar, we have been emphasizing that it often neglects or denies the basic values - social justice, equality and constitutional morality – or denies them.
