IPL 2022: Next year will be even more exciting IPL, 2 new teams enter Lucknow and Ahmedabad


The way has been cleared for 10 teams to play in the Indian Premier League 2022. Bids for two new teams were floated in Dubai on Monday, with Ahmedabad and Lucknow named.

The BCCI has earned more than Rs 12,000 crore from these two teams, far exceeding expectations. The Sanjeev Goenka Group has bid Rs 7,090 crore for Lucknow, which has already been acquired by Rising Pune Giants in the IPL. For Ahmedabad, a bid of Rs 5,625 crore has been made by the foreign company CVC Group. The BCCI had hoped to earn around Rs 7,000-10,000 crore from the two new IPL teams but the revenue has crossed Rs 12,000 crore. The Sanjeev Goenka group has surprised everyone by making such a big bid.

The board said that in the 2022 season of IPL, there will be 10 teams and 74 matches will be played. Each team will play 7 matches at home and 7 matches against the opposing team. Goenka is happy to be back in the IPL and this time as a full-time boss. After the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for spot-fixing, they got a chance to run the Pune franchise temporarily.
