The closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa turned memorable on Friday when superstar Rajinikanth, who has completed 50 years in cinema, was honored with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and Ash Mayfair’s film ‘Skin of Youth’ received the top prize. At the closing ceremony of IFFI, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant honored Rajinikanth with a shawl and memento.

The 74-year-old superstar said, “I stand here with great humility and gratitude and sincerely thank the central government for appreciating and honoring my work of 50 years. If I look back, I feel that I have worked only for 10-15 years, and the reason for this is only my love for cinema and acting.
Therefore, even after 100 years, I would like to be born again as an actor, i.e. Rajinikanth. Thank you for your love and affection.” The actor was present at the event with his family. Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, actor-producer Rishabh Shetty, Sholay director Ramesh Sippy, Dhanush, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vineet Kumar Singh, Amit Sadh and filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Shekhar Kapur were also present in the program.

Tributes were also paid at the ceremony to the artists who left the world this year. Dharmendra, Kamini Kaushal, Sulakshana Pandit, Satish Shah, Piyush Pandey, Zubin Garg and Shyam Benegal were remembered at the tribute event titled ‘In Fond Remembrance of the Artists We Lost’. The winners were also given prizes at the ceremony. Vietnamese film ‘Skin of Youth’ received the Best Film award.
The Best Director award was given to Santosh Dawkhar for his Marathi film ‘Gondhal’. Colombian actor Ubemar Rios received the Best Actor award for his performance in the film ‘A Poet’. Zara Sofija Ostan received the Best Actress award for her performance in the film ‘Little Troubled Girls’.
The Special Jury Prize was given to the Nigerian story ‘My Father’s Shadow’, while the ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal was awarded to the film ‘Safe House’. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan said he is amazed to see how IFFI is growing from strength to strength every year.
