The Calcutta High Court on Thursday (5 June) has provided interim bail to Sharmishtha Panoli. Sharmistha Panoli was arrested by Kolkata Police from Gurugram. He is accused that he posted a communal video, causing a lot of uproar online. The court has asked Sharmishtha to fill a bail bond of Rs 10,000.

22 -year -old influential and law student was arrested by Kolkata Police last week due to his controversial media post on ‘Operation Sindoor’ from Gurugram in Haryana. He is accused of hurting religious sentiments through his ‘communal’ comments in the video now removed on social media. Senior officials said on Wednesday that the FIR was lodged by Vajahat Khan Qadri, due to which social media influential Sharmistha Panoli was arrested for hurting religious sentiments and is now absconding. A trust named Shri Ram Swabhimaan Parishad has filed a complaint against Vajahat Khan Qadri at Garden Reich Police Station in Kolkata. This is the same police station where he lodged a complaint against Sharmistha Panoli.
FIRs have been lodged against him after several complaints filed in many parts of the country including Mumbai and Assam, accusing him of making hate speech and making derogatory remarks against religious gods in social media posts. Kadri’s family members defended him claiming that he is “innocent and secular”. Qadri, the head of the Rashidi Foundation and a resident of Garden Reich, Kolkata, is currently absconding, police confirmed this on Wednesday.
