Manoj Bajpayee is back with another police drama and fans have started responding to the film as soon as it is released. Directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, the film stars Manoj Bajpayee, Jim Sarbh, Sachin Khedekar and Girija Oak in the lead roles. The story revolves around the mission to catch Karl Bhojraj (clear reference to Charles Sobhraj), the killer of Bajpai’s character. It is based on the real -life police officer Madhukar Zande, who caught Charles Sobhraj twice, not once.
Story: International thugs Karl Bhojraj (Jim Sarbh) re-manifests in Mumbai, which leads to a stressful rat-cat game. Tireless and fast-paced Inspector Zende (Manoj Bajpayee) will have to dodge this attractive but dangerous fugitive, before his deception turns into chaos once again.
Review: Crime thriller based on real -life criminals is not new to Indian cinema. Notorious “bikini killer” or “swimsuit killer” Charles Sobhraj has inspired countless books, documentaries and adaptations- from me and Charles (2015) to The Serpent (2021) of Netflix. Nevertheless, Inspector Zende takes a refreshing turn, focusing on the infamous thugs and catching him anonymous hero – Mumbai’s IPS officer, Madhukar Bapurao focuses on Bapurao Zande. Based on the rigorous backgrounds of the 1970s and 80s, the film dramatically dramatically discovering the tireless discovery of Carl Bhojraj (a fictional version of Sobhraj) by Zende. Twice, the officials managed to catch this elusive fugitive- first in 1971 and then after his infamous escape from Tihar Jail in 1986. It is about the victory of intuitive knowledge over technology in the era without perseverance, road-smart policing, and CCTV or digital forensic.

Inspector Zende seems to be a distant cousin of Srikanth Tiwari, Manoj’s “The Family Man”, perhaps because he finds this place very well-known. The story is based on the mission to catch the main character killer Carl Bhojraj (of course Charles Sobhraj), and this chase comes out as a bizarre comedy.
Written and directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, the film is like a traditional snake-witted battle, which the Zende itself has described. It is based on the real -life police officer Madhukar Zende, who caught Charles not once, but twice, a story that should have been recited on the big screen. And the thing that can seem to be cinematic exaggeration often proves to be true: During the train journey from Goa to Mumbai after the arrest, the Xande really set up two policemen on Charles!

Its tone is light. The squad of policemen around Manoj is as unique as he is himself, and each one has a unique specialty that makes them different. Charles’ severity of crimes, due to which she got a bikini killer surname, never disappears, but the film keeps humor at the center.
There is a slight lack of film speed. Constant chase makes you tired, and after a time, you start thinking about the purpose of all this. The forecast also does not help, which reduces the energy of a vibrant setup.
Talking about the performance, Manoj Bajpayee plays the Zande with his distinctive conviction, and adds a lot of attraction to his character. Jim Sarbh looks exactly like Shaleen Karl and performs excellent in his accent, which also brings a dangerousness under the brightness. Bhalchandra Kasam suits the role of Zende’s assistant, while Sachin Khedekar, even though he is in a small character, leaves the right impact.
