India’s tension increased due to Bhutan’s PM’s statement on Doklam! Know what is its political meaning

[ad_1]

Doklam Standoff: Six years after Indian and Chinese troops were engaged in a face-off at Doklam, Bhutan’s prime minister has said Beijing has an equal right to seek a solution to the dispute over the high-altitude plateau, which India believes is occupied by China. illegally occupied. In an interview with Belgian daily La Libre, Prime Minister Lotay Tshering said it is not up to Bhutan alone to solve the problem. We are three countries and none is big or small, all are equal. In this case the share of each is one third. Till now, on the basis of satellite photographs, it was told that China has established 10 villages inside the border of Bhutan.

Why is Bhutan’s PM’s statement a blow to India?

The claim of China’s participation in finding a solution to the border dispute is being considered as a big blow for India. India believes that China has illegally occupied this area. From the very beginning, India has been opposing the Chinese intrusion in Doklam. Doklam is close to the strategically sensitive Siliguri Corridor, a narrow stretch of land that separates India’s northeastern states from the rest of the country. China’s strategy is to cut off India’s contact with the Northeast by closing the Siliguri Corridor during the war. In view of this, China is trying to enter more and more inside the area of Doklam. China has also built many roads in this area.

Bhutan is now ready to compromise on Doklam

At the same time, now the Prime Minister of Bhutan says that we are ready for a compromise. As soon as the other two countries are ready like India and China, we can discuss. It is believed to be a sign that Thimphu is ready to hold talks on Doklam, a disputed area between Bhutan-China and India. This statement of the Prime Minister of Bhutan is in sharp contrast to his statement in 2019, in which he had said that neither side should do anything unilaterally near the current trijunction point of the three countries. For decades that trijunction point is located in the world map at a place named Batang La. China’s Chumbi Valley is to the north of Batang La. Whereas, Bhutan is situated in the south-east and India is in the west.

Know why Doklam is important for India

China says that the trijunction should be shifted to a peak named Mount Jipmochi, about seven kilometers south of Batang La. If this happens, the entire Doklam Plateau will legally become a part of China, which will not be accepted by India. In 2017, the soldiers of India and China were face to face in this area for two months. During that time Indian soldiers had stopped China from building a road in the Doklam Plateau. This road used to illegally connect Mount Gipmochi with a peak named Zampheri. The Indian Army believes that the Chinese Army cannot be allowed to climb Jhampheri. Actually, this will help them keep an eye on the Siliguri corridor.
