Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed several initiatives at the G-20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, aimed at reshaping global development in line with India’s civilizational values. Addressing a session on ‘Inclusive and sustainable economic growth that leaves no one behind’, Prime Minister Modi called for a deep rethink of global development norms. He said the G-20 has long shaped global finance and development, but prevailing models have deprived large populations of resources and led to over-exploitation of nature. These challenges are felt acutely in Africa.
Modi said with Africa hosting the G-20 summit for the first time, now is the right time for us to rethink our development paradigms and focus on inclusive and sustainable development. India’s civilizational values, especially the principle of integral humanism, pave the way forward. Modi said that I proposed some action plans to realize our dream of all-round development. The first of these is the creation of the G20 Global Traditional Knowledge Repository. India’s history is rich in this regard. This will help us advance our collective knowledge towards better health and well-being. Africa’s progress is vital to global progress. India has always stood in solidarity with Africa. I am proud that the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 during India’s presidency of the G20. Taking this spirit forward, India proposes the G20-Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative. Our collective goal should be to produce 1 million certified trainers in Africa within the next decade.

He said that India proposes to form a G20 Global Healthcare Response Team. When we work together during health emergencies and natural disasters, we are stronger. Our effort should be to create teams of trained medical experts from other G20 countries who will be ready for immediate deployment in any emergency. To address the challenge of drug trafficking, especially the spread of highly dangerous substances like fentanyl, India has proposed a G-20 initiative to counter the drug-terrorism nexus. Let us weaken this dysfunctional narco-terrorist economy!
