Air New Zealand on Wednesday announced the appointment of Nikhil Ravi Shankar of Indian origin as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Currently, Ravi Shankar, the chief digital officer of the airline, will replace Greg Foren on 20 October. According to a report by The New Zealand Herald, Foren announced in March that he would resign from the post of Air New Zealand. Ravi Shankar has been with the airline for almost five years, during which he has taken care of the major progress in digital infrastructure, customer experience and loyalty systems.

Announcing the appointment, the Board President of Air New Zealand, Dame Theresi Walsh described it as an important moment that reflects both speed and renewal. Walsh said that we have always been courageous and are not afraid to adapt and lead. Nikhil has brought with us the mentality and contemporary leadership that we need to build on our strong foundation and focus on the future. The board made a comprehensive international discovery and we were happy to see Nikhil moving so firmly in this process.

Walsh said that his ambition for the future of the airline and his skill of providing leadership, his desire for excellence, digital literacy, global attitude and relationships and his deep concern for airline and New Zealand is clearly visible. Airlines will have to face constant heavy challenges, whether it is climate change, expectations of customers, technology, cost pressure or geopolitics. Nikhil brings a new approach that is based on the values of New Zealand and keeps a deep knowledge of important infrastructure in the airline and various fields.
