US President Donald Trump suddenly canceled the F-1 visa of thousands of international students. After this decision, now Indian and Chinese students together have taken the path of legal action against the Trump government.
These students have filed a case against the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other immigration officers. The case has been filed by the American Civil Liberty Union (ACLU) in the US District Court of New Hampshire.
Students say that this decision to cancel the visa is unilateral and illegal, which has taken away their education, future jobs and the right to live legally in the US. ACLU has said in its statement that the matter is not limited to these students, but the future of thousands of international students living in America.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has gathered information about 327 such students. Over 50% of these are Indian students. The second number after India is from China. 14% of the students included in this list are Chinese.
The US State Department has been investigating the data of foreign students for the last four months. Through this, visas of foreign students protesting against Israel and in support of Hamas are being canceled.
According to External Affairs Minister Marco Rubio, till March 26, the F-1 visa of more than 300 ‘Hamas’ students has been canceled. It also includes many Indian students.

The Government of India assured the students that the embassy and consulates are available to help them if needed. Following the cancellation of visa in March 2025, Jaishankar said that they are talking to US authorities to ensure that Indian students are prolonged.
