Indian judicial system facing unique challenges: Chief Justice Gavai

Chief Justice BR Gawai said on Saturday that the Indian judicial system is facing unique challenges and the delay in cases can sometimes last for decades.

Addressing the convocation at Nalasar Law University, Hyderabad, Justice Gawai advised the students not to study abroad on scholarship and do not put financial burden on the family.

He said, “Our country and judicial system are facing unique challenges. Delay in cases can sometimes last for decades. We have seen cases where any innocent has been found innocent even after spending years in jail as a prisoner under consideration. Our best talents can help us solve the problems that we are facing. ”

The Chief Justice cited Senior Federal District Judge ZS Rakoff in this regard. The American judge wrote in his book ‘Why innocent guilty and the guilty free: and other contradictions of our broken legal system wrote, “Although I have come to the conclusion that there is a strict need to improve our judicial system, yet I am completely optimistic that my partner (citizen) will face this challenge.”

This remark of the US judge was quoted by Chief Justice Gawai. In addition, the Chief Justice advised the passed graduates to find guides for honesty, not to use their influence.

Chief Minister A Revant Reddy and Supreme Court Judge Justice PS Narasimha were also present on the occasion. Acting Chief Justice of Telangana High Court Justice Sujoy Paul presided over the convocation.
