Mohammad Nizamuddin, a 30 -year -old student of Telangana, was allegedly shot dead by the police in Santa Clara, California. It is alleged that he attacked his roommate with a knife. The incident occurred on 3 September, but his family received the news of his death two weeks later. Nizamuddin’s father, retired teacher Hussainuddin told toi that he received the news from his son’s friend living in Raichur, Karnataka on September 18, who himself lives in Santa Clara.

The deceased Mohammad Nizamuddin, who hails from Mahmudabad district, went to Florida College for Higher Education in 2016. According to the family, after completing MS, he started working as a software professional in a company and went to California after promotion. His father Mohammad Hussainuddin told the news agency PTI based on the information received from his son’s friend that the incident took place on 3 September, but what happened that day is not clear.
Hussainuddin has requested the central government to help him back to bring back his son’s body. In a letter to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, he said, “This morning I came to know that Nizamuddin was shot and killed by Santa Clara police and his body is in a hospital in Santa Clara in California. I don’t know why the police killed him.”
Police statement
Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) said in a statement on its website that a call on 911 at 6.08 am on September 3 at 6.08 am that a house had been tightened. “The caller said that the accused had attacked a person in the house with a knife. The SCPD officer rushed to the spot, an encounter with the accused and the firing took place. The accused was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died. The injured person was also taken to the hospital and is undergoing treatment. The police officer did not get any injury.”

Police chief Kori Morgan said that the fight between two roommates became violent and before the police arrived, one attacked the other with a knife. When the police entered the house, Nizamuddin was allegedly stabbed and threatening to attack again. Morgan said, “On the basis of our initial investigation, we feel that this move of the police officer saved further losses and left at least one life.” Two knives were recovered from the spot.
Family shock
The family of Mahbubnagar is unable to recover this incident and official information. His father said, “We just want to take him home and cremate him.” On the demand of community leaders and local representatives, the US officials of the Ministry of External Affairs are expected to talk on the matter.
