India-Rus Trade Deal: Mini trade deal from America, India maintained no entry in agricultural sector

India and the US may announce a trade agreement late tonight. The authorities have hoped to have a favorable agreement. However, major areas such as dairy and many agricultural products are expected to be kept out of this agreement. Some American demands, including corn and more market access to some fruits, are expected to be accommodated. The announcement is expected to be before the time limit of mutual tariffs, which is ending tonight. India is adopting a firm stand for the protection of sensitive areas, especially wheat, maize, dairy and genetically grown crops.

The US has demanded market access to its agricultural products, but India is giving priority to its food security and safety of domestic farmers. Despite these differences, India is ready to reduce tariffs on textiles, leather and pharmaceuticals. US President Donald Trump has already announced that the United States is getting closer to the trade agreement with India as part of its efforts to eliminate trade deficit and increase US profit through tariffs. Trump told reporters during a personal dinner with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu that we are close to a compromise with India. We have entered into an agreement with the United Kingdom. We have entered into an agreement with China. Although Trump did not provide details about the structure or scope of a possible agreement with India, he indicated flexibility to countries with legitimate concerns.

According to sources, in view of India’s stagnant attitude, the US has decided not to pressurize the agricultural sector at present. It has been said from India that the real figures of bilateral trade will start coming out in the three years after BTA. 60% of India’s population directly depends on agriculture. 1% of America’s population depends on agriculture. India will make up for this by purchasing energy and defense from America.
