According to the report, extreme poverty in villages declined from 18.4% to 2.8%, while in urban areas it declined from 10.7% to 1.1%. The rural-urban gap declined from 7.7% to 1.7%. This is a 16% decline annually.

Here those who earn less than about 292 rupees per day are considered to be in lower-middle class power. On this basis, 61.8% of the people were in poverty in 2011-12, while in 2022-23 it declined to 28.1%. During this time 37.8 crore people managed to get out of poverty.
