Independent films give the country fame but they do not get support: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui believes that independent films and directors give fame to India but when they return home from the film festival, they do not get enough support here. ‘Indie’ film or independent film is a feature film or short film that is produced outside the major film studio system and is distributed by independent entertainment companies.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui believes that films of Anurag Kashyap, Payal Kapadia and Neeraj Ghewan have contributed more in making a place in the international market than big Bollywood projects. According to Siddiqui, independent filmmakers depict the characters of the street and corners of India and are not limited to the migrant community.

Siddiqui said in the interview, “A lot can happen if such (independent) films are supported. We dismiss them as films of Film Festival. They get limited release and do not get any support to the producers of such films. But these are films that make our country fame. Apart from Anurag Kashyap’s hit film “Gangs of Wasseypur” starring Siddiqui, Siddiqui’s eight films including Ritesh Batra’s ‘The Lunchbox’ and Aseem Ahluwalia’s ‘Miss Lovely’ have gone.

He worked with Ghewan in the second season of the web series “Sacred Games”. He said, “Usually Western audiences do not watch Bollywood movies. But these are films that are seen, whether it is Payal Kapadia’s film or Neeraj Ghewan’s … These films make an identity of our country because the more local, as global. “He said,” In our films we do not watch the characters of our society. The character you see in our films are not present in our streets and nooks. If you make films about India, then they earn a name outside because they are real films.Big films so -called business films are still not able to make a place in that market but these small filmmakers have already done so.

Giving an example of his 2013 film “The Lunchbox”, Siddiqui said that many people in the western world know about this film. The film also featured Irrfan and Nimrat Kaur. He said, “These filmmakers (independent) may be small due to their budget but they are big filmmakers due to their mind and they will illuminate the name of independent filmmakers India and they will continue to do so.” Siddiqui said that as an actor, he has tried to work in many independent films very little or without money as he feels that he feels that it is necessary to support this type of cinema.
