Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Akshar Patel took the break, while other members of the Indian team sweated fiercely during the first training of the two -Test series against the West Indies on Tuesday after two days of the brilliant win in the Asia Cup.
Team members including captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir arrived here on Monday and Tuesday and the team practiced for about three hours at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Apart from this, India will also have to manage the players’ work due to the closing of the white ball tournament Asia Cup on Sunday and a series of the World Test Championship starting on Thursday.
After the start with light warm up and catching, all the batsmen practiced on the net for a long time while other fast bowlers also worked hard. Mohammad Siraj and famous Krishna bowled for about 45 minutes after the weather was clear. Both of them also played against Australia A for India A in the second four -day informal Test.
Both right -handed fast bowlers were seen in good rhythm and after the rain, the practice achieved good speed and bounce on the wicket. After reaching here, Gambhir, who saw the pitch, reviewed the pitch again after India’s training session ended. Apart from openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Lokesh Rahul, wicketkeeper batsman Dhruv Jurlel also appeared in a great rhythm who captained India A in the second informal Test.
Other middle -order batsmen B Sai Sudarshan and Devdutt Padikkal also appeared in good rhythm but captain Gill faced some troubles while facing Indian fast bowlers and throw down experts. Gill played some balls from the middle of the bat but missed some. Also, when he proceeded for defense, the ball also took the outer edge of the bat.
Once he was also surprised when a rising ball of chest height hit his gloves. Still Gill batted on different nets and batted against every possible combination between fast bowling, spin and throw down as this 26-year-old player is ready to lead India in his first domestic Test as a full-time captain.
It will also be the first domestic match for the Indian team in the World Test Championship. The team impressed everyone with their passion and skills in England and had a tough-fighting series 2–2. After the top four places are fixed, it remains to be seen who will choose the team management as additional batsmen from Nitish Reddy and Padikkal.
Padikal made no mistake in the net after scoring 150 runs in the first informal Test against Australia A, while Reddy also showed a great rhythm, especially bowling with Siraj and the famous. With the involvement of Reddy, the team will get the third fast bowling option and it remains to be seen whether the team management includes this option in the middle order before the match starts.
There is a possibility of involvement in the debate for the selection of both of them because Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep, Siraj and Bumrah seems to be fixed. Kuldeep, who played an important role in India’s victory by taking four wickets in the Asia Cup final, can prove to be a big challenge against the weaker team of the West Indies, which does not have much experience to play under Indian conditions. Earlier in the day, the West Indies team was forced to practice on the indoor net as their net session was only half an hour due to rain.
