IND vs WI 2nd Test Day 3: Campbell and Hope’s century partnership, West Indies dragged the 2nd Test to the fourth day

On the basis of an unbroken 138-run partnership for the third wicket between the two along with half-centuries from openers John Campbell and Shai Hope, the West Indies team was successful in drawing the second and final Test match against India on the fourth day.

After getting the West Indies follow-on, stumps on the third day on Sunday made 173 runs for three wickets in their second innings. The team will still have to score 97 more to avoid an innings defeat. At the time of stumps, Campbell was batting on 87 and Hope on 66. India still had the upper hand in the match but due to Campbell’s confident innings, West Indies won the third session of the day. This is the first session of the entire series which was in the name of West Indies.

Campbell hit nine fours and two sixes in his 145-ball innings. Adopted an aggressive stance especially against Kuldeep Yadav. The partnership between him and Hope will boost the morale of the West Indies players before the upcoming tour of New Zealand. Earlier, in the first two sessions, Kuldeep displayed his artistry and played an important role in wrapping up the West Indies’ first innings by taking five wickets.

West Indies started the day with 140 runs for four wickets in the first innings but after half an hour of play, Kuldeep strengthened India’s dominance by bowling Shai Hope (36) with a brilliant ball. West Indies’ first innings was limited to 248 runs in 81.5 overs. With a lead of 270 runs in the first innings, head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill asked West Indies to follow on.

Before the tea break, Mohammed Siraj bowled another sharp short ball on a flat pitch to Tegnarayan Chanderpaul (10), who could not control his pull-shot. Captain Shubhman Gill ended his innings by taking a diving catch. Ellis Athanje (seven) was dismissed by Washington Sundar on a ball that took excellent off-spin.

At the beginning of the second session, Jasprit Bumrah achieved the first success in the match by bowling Khary Pierre. After this, Kuldeep trapped Jayden Seales LBW and completed five wickets for the fifth time in the 15th Test of his Test career. In the opening session of the day, Kuldeep shook the West Indies middle order with his spin magic. Ravindra Jadeja (3 wickets for 46 runs) led the West Indies top order on the second day of the match, while Kuldeep bowled Shai Hope with his brilliant ball at the beginning of the third day.

Hope tried to play defensively to turn the ball but the ball remained straight and hit the wickets. This left-arm bowler then gave India its second success of the day by LBW the second unbeaten batsman of the day, Tevin Imlach (21). Imlach reviewed against the on-field umpire’s decision but replays showed the ball hitting the wickets.

Justin Greaves (17) took an aggressive approach as soon as he came to the crease and hit three fours but while trying to reverse sweep, he was LBW on the ball of Kuldeep. Jomel Warrican became Siraj’s first victim in the match. The ball took the inside edge of his bat and hit the wickets. Khary Pierre (23) and Anderson Phillips (24 not out) were successful in prolonging the West Indies’ first innings by making a partnership of 46 runs for the ninth wicket.
