On the first day of the second Test match being played in Edgbaston, India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has created history against England. Actually, Gill has joined the club of veterans like Great Don Bradman and Gary Sobers. He has become a batsman to score a century in the first two Tests as captain in a series against England. In this way, he has also named Don Bradman, Gary Sobers and Graeme Smith Kesath.
Shubman Gill has become the 9th captain to visit England who has scored centuries in the first two Tests of the series. He is the second Indian captain to do this feat after Mohammad Azharuddin. Don Bradman did this in 1938, Gary Sobers 1966 and Mohammad Azharuddin in 1990. Gill, 25, scored 147 runs in Haddingley in the first Test against England. Now he has scored a century on the first day of Edgbaston Test. He is unbeaten on 114 runs thanks to his innings, India has scored 310 runs at the loss of 5 wickets at the end of the first day’s play.
During his innings, Shubman Gill made many records. He has become the fourth Indian who has scored centuries in both the initial Tests under his captaincy. Prior to this, these acts have been done by Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli.
Not only this, he is the third Indian batsman to score a century in three consecutive Tests against England. Earlier, Mohammad Azruddin, Dilip Vengsarkar and Rahul Dravid have achieved this feat.
