A day after CP Radhakrishnan was elected Vice President of India, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju thanked the Indian Block MPs for voting for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate, indicating cross-voting. Elections for the post of Vice President were held on Tuesday, 9 September. NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan won with a total of 452 votes out of 767 votes cast in secret voting.

Speaking to X on Wednesday, the Union Minister thanked the MPs of India Block, who allegedly crossed the cross voting, ensuring the victory of the NDA candidate. Rijiju said that special thanks to some MPs of the India alliance who voted for the NDA candidate in the Vice President’s Awaaz Ki Awaaz ‘. The NDA and all our friendly MPs are united. On one, he wrote that the Vice President has been elected through ballot papers. Voting took place with secret and conscience. Voting and counting were done in the presence of representatives of both parties. Representatives of both parties were present all the time. No one can steal the heart and mind of MPs.

Prior to Tuesday, the number 427 for the NDA candidate, which is the number of BJP -led coalition in Parliament. However, after voting, Radhakrishnan received a total of 452 votes, showing an increase of 14 votes. India Block candidate B Sudarshan Reddy received a total of 300 votes. Before the counting of votes, the opposition candidate was expected to get around 324 votes. After the counting of votes, 15 votes were found illegal. With the increase in the number of votes in favor of Radhakrishnan, cross voting came to light as NDA leaders alleged that opposition leaders would have voted for their candidate.
