A few youths angry with the blasphemy ransacked the house of the accused Jasveer on Monday evening. The shopkeepers of Morinda kept the market closed in protest against the incident. Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib has also strongly condemned this incident of disrespect. The Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, has also taken strict notice of this incident and demanded strict action against the accused.

Lalpura said that Punjab has seen a long history of communal violence. Such incidents could have been avoided if the culprits had been given strict punishments and fair investigation into these cases. The National Commission for Minorities has asked the Chief Secretary of Punjab to give a list of all the cases of blasphemy in Punjab in the last 45 years.

Let us tell you that a young man with a case entered the Gurdwara and started beating the people who were reciting. The incident took place on Monday at Morinda in Ropar district. After the incident, the people present in the shrine caught the blaspheming young man and beat him badly. The devotees dragged the young man out of the shrine. The CCTV footage related to this incident which happened at Gurdwara Kotwali Sahib in Morinda town of Ropar district has come to light.

In this footage, it is clearly seen that the lesson was going on in the Gurdwara around 1.15 pm. Sangat was sitting and chanting. At the same time, a young man with a case entered the Gurdwara wearing shoes. As soon as he entered the Gurdwara, the said young man started walking towards the two Granthians who were reciting Sri Guru Granth Sahib and started pointing them out of the Gurdwara Sahib. Before anyone knew anything, the young man jumped over the steel grill and reached the back of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

The young man started beating the two scribes sitting there. He slapped both of them and removed their turbans in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. In anger, the young man also insulted Sri Guru Granth Sahib. All this happened so quickly that the congregation chanting in the shrine could not understand anything. After this, in a hurry, the Sangat present there caught the young man and beat him badly. After this, people dragged the young man out of the shrine.

As soon as the incident was reported, the police also reached the spot and took the youth into custody. With this incident of disrespect, the people of Morinda got angry and they started protesting by blocking the road. Due to this, the situation in Morinda has become tense.

The people sitting on the dharna alleged that the police wanted to call the youth crazy. He claimed that neither the youth’s actions were insane nor his intention. People said that unless action is taken against the youth, they will not end the sit-in.
