In a letter to CM Yogi regarding the Lakhimpur Khiri incident, Varun Gandhi said:

Expressing grief over the incident, he said that Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday was celebrated by the people of the country a day earlier and the same kind of torture inflicted on the farmers on the next day could not be accepted.

He has also written a letter to the state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In the letter, he has asked the CM Yogi to conduct a CBI probe into the incident. He also demanded compensation of Rs one crore each to the families of the victims.

Speaking about the farmers, Varun Gandhi said that the farmers are also our brothers and if they are protesting against some of their demands within the democratic process then we should support them. We should listen to them and try to resolve the issue.

Speaking on the occasion, Varun Gandhi said that the incident was such that its culprits could not be forgiven. Therefore, in order to bring justice to the families of the victims, the matter should be investigated by the CBI and the culprits should be severely punished.
