IAS officer Ravneet Kaur: The Government of India has appointed 1988 batch Punjab cadre IAS officer Ravneet Kaur as the new Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
His appointment will be for five years from the time he assumes charge or till the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Currently, Sangeeta Verma is serving as the Executive Chairperson of CCI. Currently, Ravneet Kaur is the Additional Chief Secretary and Finance Commissioner in the Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management in Chandigarh.
It may be noted that the post of CCI Chairperson has fallen vacant after the retirement of former incumbent Ashok Kumar Gupta in October last year. Ravneet Kaur, an IAS officer of Punjab, has served the government in various positions. From 2006-2008, she was the Director of the Department of Economic Affairs. From 2008 to 2011, she was Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services.
Ravneet Kaur has served as the Principal Secretary to the Government of Punjab for 11 months from 2012 to 2013. He has also served as Principal Secretary, Cabinet, Coordination and Parliamentary Affairs for the Government of Punjab for a period of less than 1 year from 2014 to 2015.
In 2015, he was appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, where he was responsible for granting industrial licenses for the defence, aerospace and explosives sectors, among other responsibilities.
The 1988-batch IAS officer was appointed Chairperson and Managing Director (CMD) of the India Tourism Development Corporation in 2017, where he served till 2019. In 2019, Ravneet Kaur was appointed Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab and was also given the charge of Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner in the Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management.
