Hyderabad Kurnool Bus Fire | AC bus catches fire on Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway, at least 20 people burnt alive

At least 20 people were killed when a private Kaveri Travels bus collided with a bike and caught fire in Chinna Tekuru village in Kurnool district early Friday. The bus, which was traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, had more than 40 passengers on board, and it caught fire moments after the collision. Dr. Siri said that so far 21 people have been traced. Out of the remaining 20 bodies, 11 have been identified, while 9 are yet to be identified. He noticed that after the fire the door of the bus was jammed and would not open.Police said that a person riding a bike was also among those who died.

According to preliminary information, around 40 people were traveling in the Hyderabad-bound bus when the accident occurred. It said that after the collision, the motorcycle came under the bus and the lid of its fuel tank opened, causing fire. Kurnool division’s Deputy Inspector General of Police Koya Praveen told PTI, “19 passengers, two children and two drivers had a narrow escape in the accident.” Police said that due to a short circuit, the door of the bus got jammed and within a few minutes the bus was completely burnt to ashes.

According to Kurnool SP Vikrant Patil, the accident occurred near Chinna Tekuru village at around 3 am. “The bus hit a two-wheeler, dragging the bus for 200 metres. This caused the fuel tank to burst, causing sparks and a fire that gutted the bus within two minutes. Since it was an AC bus, the passengers had to break the windows. Those who managed to do so are safe.” Rescue and fire-fighting operations continued till morning, and officials said the exact number of dead would be known only after the fire extinguishing work was completed.
