Kerala received heavy rainfall on Sunday, due to which trees were uprooted at many places across the state. A tree in Thrissur fell on a moving train while a person died after falling in a tree in Kozhikode. The officers provided this information.
According to officials, due to the activation of the southwest monsoon, there was heavy rains in many areas of the state. Houses were damaged in many areas due to rain, rivers came in spate and as a result, the doors of some dams were opened.
On Sunday morning, a tree fell on a moving train near the railway bridge in Cheruthuruthi in Thrissur district. Officials said the loco pilot showed understanding and stopped the train, which averted the accident.
He said that no casualties were reported in this incident. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rains by issuing red alerts for five northern districts of the state – Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod due to continuation of heavy rains.
Almost all the districts of the state received heavy rains since last night, causing heavy waterlogging in the low -lying areas and disrupted traffic. The uproar of trees on a large scale across the state caused heavy damage to homes and vehicles and one person died in Kozhikode district.
A coconut tree fell on a 64 -year -old holy in Willyappalli, Kozhikode, killing him. People said that after continuous rains, the water level is continuously increasing in the Punnapuzha River flowing through the Churalamala-Mundakai region of Wayanad and the Korapujha River of Kozhikode.
Last night in Churalamala, Wayanad, affected by landslides, caused concern among the local people due to continuous heavy rains. Meanwhile, IMD on Sunday released ‘Orange Alert’ for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamathitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad.
