This summit, held in Sharm el-Sheikh, located on the Red Sea coast of Egypt, brought an end to the war between Israel and Hamas that had been going on for more than two years. Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of a ceasefire agreement in talks brokered by Qatar, under pressure from the US, Arab countries and Turkey. Hamas released 20 hostages and Israel released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Representatives of many countries including America are also present in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. However, the possibility of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Neten Yahoo’s participation in it was expressed. But some time before this conference he had clearly refused to participate in it. According to AFP report, Netanyahu was scheduled to attend the conference after Trump extended a last-minute invitation. But due to diplomatic pressure exerted by Turkish President Erdogan, it was not possible for him to come to Egypt.

A Turkish ambassador was quoted as saying that Erdogan opposed Netanyahu’s presence in Egypt and had also talked to the leaders of other countries about this. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the ambassador said that contacts were made with other leaders on the initiative of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and through Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts. After this, it was because of the support of those leaders that Netanya did not attend the meeting in Egypt. According to Turkish media reports, Erdogan, who was traveling to Egypt to attend the Gaza Peace Summit, had refused to land there until he got assurance that Netanyahu was not coming here.

The ceasefire in the two-year-long Israel-Hamas war continued on Tuesday, although many complex issues are still unresolved. The move came a day after widespread jubilation over the return to Israel of the 20 remaining hostages held in Gaza in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. The list of urgent questions also includes when Hamas will return to Israel the bodies of the 28 hostages believed dead in Gaza, as well as questions about the health condition of the released hostages and prisoners. The bodies of only four of the dead hostages were handed over to Israeli authorities on Monday – whose release is also part of the first phase of a ceasefire agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump.
