Earlier, Delhi Police said on Monday that it had detained more than 30 MPs of opposition parties carrying out a march against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. A police official said that the detained MPs include Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut and Trinamool Congress leader Sagarika Ghosh.

Police said the opposition leaders were taken into custody and taken to the Parliament Street Police Station as the Election Commission had allowed only 30 MPs to enter their premises but the protesters were in “large numbers”. Opposition leaders had planned to take out a march from Makar Gate to Election Commission office in Parliament House where they wanted to submit a memorandum to the Commission on the SIR issue.
