In several districts of Himachal Pradesh, two people died and more than a dozen people went missing due to sudden floods due to cloudburst on Wednesday. According to the report, two bodies were recovered in Kangra district and at least 10 people were reported missing. Many houses, a school building, contact roads and small bridges have been damaged. Talking to the Indian Express, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said, “We have recovered two bodies so far, and efforts are on to locate those who were swept away in Kangra … The victim Dharamshala, was working in a small hydroelectric project near Kangra. We have sought a detailed list of workers working in the plant.”
The search operation has been intensified to locate 10 people missing since a sudden floods in Kangra and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh. The officials gave this information on Thursday. On Wednesday evening, two people died due to heavy rains, while about 20 people are expected to be washed away. However, some missing people have been rescued. About 15-20 workers living in a labor colony near Indira Priyadarshini Hydroelectric Project Site in Manuni Khad in Kangra district are expected to be washed away due to rising water level in Khaniyara Manuni Khad. Two people died due to sudden flood there. Three people were swept away in floods while trying to remove valuables from their homes in Rehla Bahu in Kullu district. They are still missing.
After visiting the spot, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said that two teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and a team of Home Guards have been posted at the scene and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been called for rescue work. He said that six people are feared to be washed away at the hydroelectric project site, while a person was seen running on a nearby hill to protect himself. He told that even that person is not yet aware. The Deputy Commissioner said that the rest of the people were saved safely. He said that search and rescue operations are priority. Some of the missing people are from Nurpur and Chamba areas of Himachal Pradesh and some are from Uttar Pradesh. A team has been sent to find a person who went to the hill during the flood.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of workers flowing due to sudden water flow in Manuni Khad. He issued a statement here saying, “In this hour of crisis, every worker of BJP is ready to help the citizens of Devbhoomi. I pray to God to compete with the peace of the departed souls and the condolences to the bereaved families. “

BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma from Dharamshala reached the spot on Thursday. He said that the project site is one kilometer from his village. He said that he had received information on Wednesday that the water level had increased and 15-20 people had swept away. Sharma said that it is negligent to make sheds for laborers near the drain and not to take them there even if there is an unsafe area in terms of weather and it should be investigated. The MLA also demanded appropriate compensation to the family of the deceased.

According to officials, the project work was stopped due to rain and the workers were resting in temporary camps near the project site, when the flood water from the Manuni Khad and the surrounding drains came towards the workers’ colony and washed away many of them. The search for three people who were washed away while trying to remove valuables from their homes in Rehla Bihal area of Sainz in Kullu district. There were three incidents of cloudburst in Jeeva Nala and Rehla Bihal in Sainj in Kullu district and Shilgarh in Gadsa region. Manali and Banjar in the district also suddenly flooded and the search operation is going on there.
